We often get asked what happens if my Dry Riser fails?
If your Dry Riser was to fail on a hydraulic pressure test this isn’t a massive problem for us. There are a number of reasons your Dry Riser system might fail. But there are few companies able to carry out remedial works to a high standard. We are experts at carrying out repairs on any size Dry Riser system no matter the problem we can usually be off assistance. We currently undertake remedial works for a range of fire protection companies across the UK.
All Dry Riser systems need to meet current BS9990-2015 standards. Part of this is passing an annual 12 bar hydraulic pressure test. The main components of a Dry Riser are the ‘Outlet Valves’ and ‘Inlet Valves’. These are generally the most common reasons a Dry Riser would fail. Replacement of these valves can sometimes be tricky dependent on age of the system and access.
If my Dry Riser Fails on its Annual Pressure Test what happens?
We issue a detailed report on any defects we found during the pressure test. Sometimes this can be minimal and wouldn’t require any further action or can be rectified at a later date. But if the defect found severely affects the use of the Dry Riser in the event of a fire we advise urgent action. This can be anything from a leaking valve to the system not meeting current BS 9990-2015 standards. It is the Building owner/management company responsibility to ensure the fire protection within their building is in good working order. We carry a large stock of spare parts and fittings should you prefer to carry out the remedial works on the same day. Our vans are also stocked with all the relevant tools to carry out any kind of alterations to the system. All our works carry a 5 year warranty, subject to ongoing maintenance.
When choosing a company to carry out the maintenance on your fire protection it isn’t always advisable to go with the cheapest quote. It is your responsibility to ensure the company you contract is carrying out the works to the relevant standards. Incorrectly maintained Dry Riser systems can be costly.
