Dry Riser Visual Inspections

We often get asked are visual inspections important when it comes to Dry risers. And what do these inspections consist of?

Although a major part of your Dry Riser inspections is the 12 Bar water pressure test. Along with an annual pressure test there are other tasks that should be carried out. It is important that you’re Dry riser works effectively in the event of an emergency. We have come up with a few other major parts of the Dry Riser that should also be inspected.

Dry Riser Landing Valve

All Landing Valves should be inspected ensuring the valve can be opened. Whilst spraying lubricant below the valve handle, this will give your Landing Valve a longer life span. Should the valve be ‘inoperable’, these should be changed as soon as possible. Instantaneous Washers should be taken out of the valve and visually inspected looking for signs of corrosion. These are easily replaced at very little cost. The final visual inspection of your Landing valve is the Pull Test, this ensures the catch of the side of the valve is working correctly and will seal against a fire hose.

BRACKETS AND JOINTS

The Dry Riser will be connected at certain sections within the system, and have joints on each level. All these should be visually inspected looking out for signs of corrosion. In the event of an emergency the fire brigade pump large volumes of water at high pressure. So all brackets and fixings should be checked making sure the pipework is secure.
