Why are Dry Risers Important?

WHY ARE DRY RISERS IMPORTANT?
A dry riser is a supply system of valves and pipework intended to distribute water to multiple levels of a building in the event of a Fire.
You will often see these systems in buildings above 18 metres in height and in structures 10 metres below ground level (usually called falling mains).Dry risers are a important fire safety system and are proven to save property and lives, this why it is important to have a specialist company to install and maintain these systems. The cost of a dry riser is small compared to the damage a fire could do to a building without one installed or not maintained.
HOW DO DRY RISERS WORK?
The pipes in dry risers are left empty and are only filled when the fire brigade arrive. They will connect their hose directly to the system at the inlet point( usually referred to as an inlet breaching valve), using the local water supply service main or Fire hydrant system and this is pressurised by their fire pump appliance. This quickly gives a constant water supply on the upper floors to effectively fight a fire. Utilising the landing valves situated within the fire lobby area they would then connect a hose to disperse water to the desired location.
